Alaiya OS: a green A with a gold apex and a gold dot

An operating system for your second brain. The right move and the right words, without repeating yourself.

Overview

The labs are building their memory of you. Alaiya is your memory of yourself.

The most common use of generative AI is people talking through their lives rather than writing code.

According to the Harvard Business Review, therapy and companionship, organizing and prioritizing, and finding purpose topped the list of use-cases.

Shallow, narrow, frequently wrong

The memory serving that demand is shallow, narrow and frequently wrong.

Locked to one vendor

What memory exists is locked to a single vendor's app.

Nothing compounds

Generic models steer everyone toward the median, so nothing you teach one compounds.

Alaiya is a personal AI operating system, a layer you own that sits between you and every model.

It takes in your notes, files and entries and stores them as a structured record, the Memory Journal, which you and the AI write together.

Models are the hardware, skills are the applications, and the journal is the user data. Swap the engine, keep your digital identity, and add grounded awareness.

The thinking underneath the system is at komcp.com/philosophy-of-memory.

Why anyone hands over their memory journal

Alaiya lets you keep your personal memory.md files on your own device.

Alaiya's Stream helps you build and curate that record, which is necessary and still not sufficient, because a browser plugin can pull facts out of your chats and a dozen of them already do. The return has to come from what the system does with the record afterwards.

That return is communication. Three lines run out of the journal, each one carrying a different job, and all three produce something you can send, say or act on.

The communication triangle. All three lines run on the journal at the center.

Coaching

Alaiya → you

A raw model gives you the median answer, and the median answer is wrong for a specific person in a specific situation.

Alaiya understands your concept files, the standing patterns it writes about how you operate, alongside the profile it keeps on your strengths, your blind spots and what you are working on.

What comes back instead is the read you would have reached yourself with more time and less heat, which is also what makes you better at using the raw models.

Negotiation

You → others

The second line runs from you out to the people around you. Negotiation travels on it, reading the people layer, which holds one spec sheet per person.

A working guess at their personality type that goes wider than a PI read, how they decide, what they care about, and how to reach them.

The move it recommends is aimed at the person in front of you rather than at people in general.

Voice

Alaiya → others

The third line goes from Alaiya to those same people. Every draft your base model produces passes through your voice spec before it reaches you, so the first draft is the one you would send.

The rounds of rewriting it takes to get a model to sound like you stop happening.

It also makes you better at using raw AI

Leaning on a raw model is dangerous because generic advice arrives confident and wrong at the same time. A model that has never met you answers the average person, and the average person is not the one in the room. The three lines above exist to close that gap.

The second effect matters as much as the first. Working against your own record teaches you where a raw model is worth believing and where it needs checking, and that judgment carries into every other AI you touch. No product can hand you that. It comes from having a record good enough to argue with.

The journal, and the gate

Alaiya drafts entries from what it hears and proposes them in the Stream. You approve them in a daily review that takes minutes. You gate the facts, and the system earns everything it builds on top of them.

Talk to Alaiya. Anything you say can become a journal entry, proposed in the Stream and approved by you.

Upkeep runs on a schedule. Each night the journal is mirrored, checked and distilled into a morning review, you approve, and an executor writes exactly what you approved and nothing else. Each week a longer reflective pass reads back across all of it and rewrites what the system understands about you.

What Alaiya builds on its own

Three layers grow out of the corpus without you writing them. Each day Alaiya records what happened, and once a week it reads back across all of it and rewrites what it understands about you.

The people layer. One canonical entry per person, with a working guess at how they think, what they want and how they decide. It is the map the system uses when it helps you write to someone.

The concept layer. The articles Alaiya writes about you out of months of entries, covering how you operate, where you get stuck and what helps. Your own profile is the same kind of model turned on yourself, and it is the one you can correct.

The voice spec. A writing rulebook earned one correction at a time, with each rule carrying the before and after that produced it.

Operations is a separate module

Operations has nothing to do with the journal. These are the mechanical skills the system learns from watching you work, the repeatable procedures and toolkit skills, along with the modular ones you commission yourself. Alaiya carries them because the alternative is conceding that ground to Hermes, which does it well and open sourced it. Modular skills live here too. The Entrepreneurship skill was built to order, and the standing offer is plain: bring the material you want a system to run on and the skill gets built around it.

Keeping the two apart matters for how we build and how we sell. Operations competes on capability against products that already exist. Communication competes on something nobody can copy without your corpus.

Where the line sits

Alaiya is a performance tool for goals, preparation, prioritization and recovery. It serves the need underneath, someone who knows you and helps you navigate, and it says so plainly when a conversation crosses a clinical line. It is not a healthcare service or a mental health app, and it declines to act as therapy.

The product today

Eji Universal

Eji Universal is a downloadable package that lets Claude Code stand up the full system on your own infrastructure. It creates your own storage, connects the retrieval agents over MCP, and ships a cold start kit that fills your journal conversationally, running an interview for your profile, bootstrapping your voice from writing you actually sent, and importing from your notes or from whatever AI already knows you.

The Fable of Eji

Alaiya OS

Alaiya OS is the desktop application over that same system, currently at v0.0.4, with a gated demo at alaiya.ai. The screens in this document are taken from it.

Private by construction

The package ships none of its builder's data, a mandatory scrub came back clean, and nothing is ever sent back. The storehouse stays on your machine, slices travel to the model each turn, and nothing accumulates on the other side.

Why use Alaiya

  • Proven in daily use. The system has run its builder's professional and personal life for eighteen months, with 300+ people tracked, 66 working dossiers, 37 standing patterns, nightly upkeep and a weekly reflective pass.

  • A validated model. Self host it, or let a hosted tier hold it as pure custody, encrypted, exportable and unread. The open core shape was recently validated at a $1.5 billion valuation by Nous Research's Hermes.

  • A clear road ahead. Everything in the vision already runs today, so the road from here is engineering rather than invention. Next comes a self hosted retrieval engine, in app one tap review, one persona across every channel, and licensed methodology partnerships at scale.

Do you know what kind of consciousness your AI has?

The essay

The thinking underneath the system

Philosophy of Memory is where the argument behind Alaiya is written out: why a record you own changes what a model can be to you.
